The Joint Vienna Institute (JVI) provides training to officials and managers from countries in central, eastern and southeastern Europe, the Commonwealth of Independent States, and Asia that have made or are making the transition from centrally planned to full market-based economies.
The JVI's training program, which is developed in consultation with the recipient countries, has the following principal objectives: - To provide comprehensive training on a broad range of operational issues and problems encountered in managing a market economy, particularly with respect to policy formulation and implementation.
- To give specialized training to deal with specific problems, set within the context of commonly-shared concerns and experiences.
- To foster the development of networks of officials across the transition economies.
- To provide opportunities for nationals of transition countries to gain first-hand experience of an advanced market economy (Austria).
The principles of cooperation and partnership guide the training at the JVI. The training program should respond to need and be provided in a coordinated fashion. Training programs may be jointly designed and conducted by the sponsoring organizations, based on continuous feedback from participants. In turn, sponsoring organizations and trainees benefit from the teaching experience and exchange of ideas, and close cooperation with each other.
