Courses
The courses on specialized topics are organized and taught by the JVI's sponsoring organizations and the course content reflects the area of expertise of each organization. For example, the IMF teaches courses on Macroeconomic Analysis and Policy, Advanced Macroeconomic and Financial Management, and Foreign Exchange Operations and Policies. The OECD teaches courses on such topics as Competition Policy, Tax Modeling, and Design and Implementation of Migration Policies. And the Bank for International Settlements teaches such topics as Insurance Supervision, Core Supervisory Issues, and Promoting Monetary Stability.
Most courses are by invitation only, and governments and organizations are invited to nominate candidates who meet the requirements of the course and who, because of their job responsibilities, would benefit from the training. The sponsoring organization invites the most qualified candidates from among those nominated. Each course can accommodate up to thirty participants. All courses are taught in English, but many have simultaneous interpretation into Russian.
Applied Economic Policy Course
The 10-week course in Applied Economic Policy is taught jointly by all of the JVI's sponsoring organizations, and is administered by the JVI. It is the only course for which direct applications should be sent to the JVI. Selection to participate in the AEP course is competitive, based on the applicant's educational background, work experience, and English language ability. The course is taught entirely in English.
The Applied Economic Policy course is open to young officials (ages 25-35). It covers a broad range of topics and focuses in particular on economic policy issues. The course is designed for individuals with a good understanding of modern market economics, financial analysis, and practical econometric and other computer-based techniques that are used in analyzing complex micro- and macroeconomic policy issues.
