Crisis course: past and current crises and future challenges - Virtual Training

TARGET GROUP | Decision makers in ministries of economy and finance, ministries of transportation/public works, ministries of labour and social affairs, economic development institutions, and central banks.

DESCRIPTION | This two-week course deals with the issues emerging from economic crises in a variety of economic relations. The aim of the course is to provide the theoretical and empirical background for a better understanding of the economics of crisis. The course draws on European and other crises’ rich experiences, including e.g. the CESEE transition crisis, the 1998 Russian financial crisis, the global financial crisis, the Euro area crisis and the Covid-19 crisis. An attempt is also made to bring to the fore the experiences of transition countries. Moreover, besides immediate crisis impact, the course also covers longer term effects and future challenges. The lectures and discussions cover specific sectors and cases, and provide detailed analysis of the political, legal and financial issues involved. Sectors covered include labour markets, health, fiscal policy, monetary and financial issues, connectivity, trade, climate and demographic change, and others. Practical examples and exercises are also provided.
