As a tax administration professional from Uzbekistan, I found the Future of Taxation course at the Joint Vienna Institute a valuable opportunity to look at taxation from both policy and administrative perspectives.
I particularly appreciated the practical insights into the Austrian tax administration and the opportunity to compare different approaches to common tax challenges. The presentation from Estonia on its distribution-based corporate income tax model was especially interesting and gave me a different perspective on how corporate taxation can be designed. The presentations from participants from Armenia and Georgia were also very relevant and provided useful regional perspectives.
One of my key takeaways is that the future of taxation is not only about digitalization, AI or new tax instruments. It is increasingly about the ability to simulate, assess and understand the potential effects of policy decisions before they are implemented.
Beyond the technical content, I greatly appreciated the open atmosphere, meaningful discussions and the opportunity to exchange experiences with colleagues from different countries.
The course gave me not only new knowledge, but also new questions and perspectives to take back to my work in Uzbekistan.
