Public Governance and Structural Reforms

TARGET GROUP | Decision-makers and public officials in governments, ministries, central banks, parliaments, regulatory agencies, and other public institutions involved in structural policies and reforms.

DESCRIPTION | This course aims to raise awareness of the structural challenges facing the economies of Central, Eastern and Southeast Europe, as well as Central Asia, and to highlight the importance of structural reforms and good governance in addressing them. It also seeks to equip participants with the knowledge and practical insights needed to design and implement effective reforms, drawing on the experience of Austrian authorities and relevant examples from across the region.

The course covers a broad range of topics, including the role of structural reforms and their macroeconomic implications; environmental protection and the policies needed to support it; reforms in education and healthcare to prepare for future challenges; effective social policies that protect vulnerable groups and promote equal opportunities; the economic and social consequences of inequality and possible approaches to reducing it; demographic trends in the region and measures to mitigate their negative effects; and industrial policies that can support long-term and inclusive growth.

The course is designed to be accessible and non-technical, with a strong emphasis on practical policy questions rather than theoretical or technical details. It will be delivered by highly experienced experts from academia and policymaking, including representatives of Austrian authorities, international organizations, and institutions from Central, Eastern and Southeast Europe. The course will also be highly interactive, with participants expected to contribute actively to discussions and practical exercises every day.
