DESCRIPTION | This one-week course deals with the causes, consequences and policy implications of various economic crises. The aim of the course is to provide the theoretical and empirical background for a better understanding of the economics of various types of crises. It covers financial crises, the COVID-19 pandemic, refugee crises, and armed conflicts. Beyond these acute crises, it discusses future challenges, particularly the green transition and the 'middle-income trap'. The course also covers fiscal, monetary, health, and climate change policies to mitigate the impact of crises. It has a strong interactive focus, including discussions, game simulations and presentations by the participants.
