The one-week Cyber Risk Supervision and Regulation course was delivered at the JVI from August 3-7 by staff from the Monetary and Capital Markets Department of the IMF. It is one of the few JVI courses devoted exclusively to cyber risks, designed for financial sector supervisors and regulators with responsibilities that include cyber risk regulation and supervision at central banks and agencies charged with supervising financial institutions.
The course provided an overview of cyber risk and financial stability, cyber regulation, outsourcing and third-party risk management, offsite and onsite supervision, cyber exercises and testing frameworks, incident reporting, digital fraud, information sharing and threat intelligence, cyber resilience of financial market infrastructures, simulations and cyber stress testing, and response and recovery.
In total, 13 lectures were delivered, complemented by interactive components such as group assignments, case study discussions, and country presentations.
26 participants from 17 countries completed this year’s course, giving it an outstanding rating in the end-of-course evaluation. In their feedback, participants described the course as well structured, relevant, practical, and directly applicable to cyber risk supervision and regulation. The lectures were praised for being clear, engaging, informative, and well balanced between theory, practical examples, case studies, and supervisory tools.
The next Cyber Risk Supervision and Regulation course at the JVI will be extended to two weeks. It is scheduled for August 2-13, 2027, promising another opportunity for financial sector supervisors and regulators to update their knowledge on emerging cybersecurity issues, enhance their skills, and contribute to advancing reforms in their home countries.
