Course on Public Governance and Structural Reforms

June 02, 2025

The JVI, in cooperation with the Vienna Institute for International Economic Studies (wiiw), held a course on Public Governance and Structural Reforms from May 12 to 16, 2025.

The course brought together 29 participants from 19 countries, chosen from more than 180 applicants. Participants came from a wide variety of institutions, including ministries of finance, economy and social affairs, central banks, tax administrations, and offices of prime ministers and presidents. This diversity enriched the learning environment and stimulated dynamic cross-country discussions.

The aim of the course was to equip participants with the knowledge and tools needed to address some of the most pressing economic and social challenges in their countries, and to support more inclusive and forward-looking policymaking.

Topics included macroeconomic impacts of reforms, climate change and adaptation strategies, social policy design, demographic change, education and healthcare reforms, inequality and its consequences, public finance management, and industrial policies to promote long-term inclusive growth.

Lectures were delivered by experts from Austrian institutions, international organisations, and universities from the region. A strong emphasis was placed on interaction and peer learning. Alongside lectures, the course featured daily practical exercises that enabled participants to apply concepts and engage directly with the material.

We thank all participants for their active contributions and look forward to continuing the dialogue in future editions.
