New Staff Member: Eugen Tereanu

Eugen Tereanu joined the JVI as a Senior Economist in July 2025, after previously working as a Principal Financial Stability Expert at the European Central Bank (ECB). Eugen started his career at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in 2009, focusing on macroeconomic, fiscal and structural issues in low-income and emerging market countries, including surveillance and program assignments in Eastern Europe. In 2015 Eugen joined the ECB, where he worked on financial stability and systemic risk assessment as well as the implementation of the ECB’s macroprudential policy mandate in euro area countries. As an invited lecturer, Eugen has also contributed to financial stability courses at the Joint Vienna Institute since 2022. His research interests include macroeconomics and macro-financial linkages, the transmission and effectiveness of macroprudential policies and more recently the application of agent-based modelling tools for policy analysis. Eugen has an MA in Economics from the Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, USA and an MA in Development Finance and Banking from American University, Washington, DC.
